Summary: In the Polish Carpathians large water reservoirs were built on the majority of the main rivers. The last Carpathian river, where there was no dam reservoir was Skawa. Plans to build a dam reservoir on it appeared already in the 1920s. The construction began in 1986. Socio-economic changes and financial difficulties that took place in Poland at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s meant that the filling of the reservoir began in November 2016. After completion of the construction of the dam body, several large floods occurred in the Skawa river basin, including catastrophic floods in 2010 and 2014. The aim of the work is to analyse the reduction of flood waves through the Świnna Poręba dam reservoir. During the flood in May 2010 and the culmination of the flood wave, the inflow into the reservoir was 1096,1 m3s-1, and the culmination of the flood wave was reduced by 82,4 %. During the flood in May 2014, the maximum inflow to the reservoir amounted to 921,7 m3s-1, and the culmination of the flood wave was reduced by 72,8 %. During both floods, the reservoir was filled in 36 % and 28 %. Due to the fact that the tank in front of both floods was empty, the usable capacity was not reached. In both cases, the work of the reservoir caused a significant reduction in the culmination of the flood wave on the lower section of Skawa and on the Vistula.
