Znaczenie Sanktuarium Kalwaryjskiego w wypowiedziach i tekstach Ojca Świętego Jana Pawła II The Significance of the Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Sanctuary in the Holy Father John Paul II's statements and texts Summary: As the title indicates, the aim of the analysis is not only to concentrate on the description of The Kalwaria Sanctuary, so often met in the Pope's statements and books. Following the flow of his thoughts, we have alsotried to emphasize the significance or in other words the sense he found there and subsequently presented to pilgrims and readers of his books. While talking about the Kalwaria Sanctuary, the Pope does not concentrate on the phenomenal side, but rather, referring to his childhood, tries to show what he himself searched for in Kalwaria and how, very slowly, he had discovered the beaming mystery overfilling this holy place. His discoveries of the 'internal mystery' of Kalwaria were accomplished in prayers with St Mary, whom he entrusted with his life (Totus Tuus). In the circle of 'beaming mystery' of the Kalwaria Sanctuary the Pope perceives a closely joined mystery of Mother and Son, i.e. Mary and Jesus. A vivid representation of this unity are The Paths of St Mary and Jesus in Kalwaria, which both cross and merge. Within the circle of this mystery and this path each pilgrim can and should perceive his place. It seems that all such considerations, made during numerous private and official pilgrimages to Kalwaria, were later reflected in the Pope's many later messages, like for example Redemptoris Mater encyclical.
