Pilgrimage teachings of John Paul II to cultural circles

Summary: The Holy Father John Paul II's opinion of culture is that of somebody who creates this culture—the opinion of a shepherd worried with a man's fate, who, on the verge of the third millennium of Christianity, shares with others his vision of a reformed human family and the desire to build up moral culture as the basis for huge, real culture. In the article John Paul II's messages to cultural circles were discussed. These messages have on the one hand a universal character and on the other hand are directed to people representing professional circles of given countries, including Poland. In them John Paul II explicitly stresses that a man is a common subject of both the Church and of culture, whereas art is one of the ways leading to God. In one of his latest statements (28th November, 1996) the Pope appeals for 'a new spring of European culture'. In messages directed to Poles, John Paul II always stresses the role of culture in the process of preserving national consciousness and the Christian character of Polish culture.
